Sober Companion and Coaching Services

Partner With a Peer-to-Peer Sober Companion at Every Step on the Road to Recovery

At ALYST Health, sober companions—what we call Certified Recovery Agents (CRAs)—support our approach to at-home addiction treatment and recovery by offering around-the-clock availability at every stage of sobriety.

Why Work With Our Sober Companions?

One of our core beliefs is that drug and alcohol addiction thrives in isolation and is best treated in a community with the support and guidance of a peer-to-peer network of professionals. ALYST’s Certified Recovery Agents stand as the cornerstone of our approach to at-home addiction recovery by providing support in sobriety while helping participants maintain their independence.

Initially, Recovery Agents are present 24/7, but they can be part time as clinically recommended, either at the participant’s home or remotely. As recovery milestones are achieved, their involvement decreases when participants gain the skills, confidence, and tools they need to sustain long-term recovery on their own.

How Do Our Sober Companions Help?

CRAs can play a variety of roles depending on the participant’s needs and goals. They most frequently serve as recovery coaches, helping participants cope with real-world problems and triggers in healthy ways as they arise. They can also act as recovery companions, supporting participants as they travel from one place to another or as part of our sober transport services.

Our CRAs have the specialized skills and experience to work in corporate environments and deal with difficult family situations. If work is triggering an addiction, a CRA can be on call to help participants maintain sobriety in the workplace. They also have the ability to diffuse tense family situations and can even serve as an on-site mediator to ensure everyone in the household is working together toward sustainable sobriety.

Industry-Best Skills and Training

All of our CRAs are equipped with:

  • Clinical Training
  • Social Etiquette Training
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Hygiene and Safety Protocols
  • Travel Protocols
  • Professional Liability Insurance
  • Confidentiality and HIPAA-Compliance Practices
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

We also conduct extensive background checks and health screenings, including COVID-19 testing, to ensure that CRAs continually act as a positive force in the lives of program participants.

Who Is a Good Fit for Our Sober Companion Program?

Our sober companion program with the guidance of a CRA is popular both for individuals who prefer an at-home addiction treatment model as well as people who need support following clinical rehabilitation.

For some, business or life affairs are too hectic to disappear for 30, 60, or 90 days. Whether they work in a demanding job, live a high-profile lifestyle, or have a unique family dynamic, sober companionship is an excellent alternative to a residential treatment facility, regardless of the circumstances.

Other participants opt for sober companionship following a residential addiction treatment program. They may have a history of relapse and a desire to break the cycle but find they haven’t been able to integrate the skills learned at a residential treatment facility into daily life. Statistics show roughly 90% of individuals relapse within a year of completing a 30-day inpatient treatment program, and our Sober Companion services offer around-the-clock support for those wanting to ensure their success after leaving treatment.

Certified Recovery Agents are best suited to individuals who need support on the road to sobriety while maintaining their independence. CRAs are also an ideal alternative to inpatient treatment and provide a safeguard to ensure a successful transition back home. CRAs help participants gain the confidence and skills to balance daily life while providing insight to help navigate through the pitfalls many people encounter in early recovery. They work with participants to establish a daily regimen for continued sobriety and create the foundation to achieve long-term recovery.
